Reflecting on my three terms on City Council, I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together – from navigating a global pandemic, to making our streets safer, to advancing inclusionary housing, to challenging the status quo. It’s been meaningful, collaborative, and at times, hard work – but always worth it.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve.
While I am proud of my work as the Ward 6 councillor, at the end of this year I’ll be ready to move on to the next chapter and to watch a new Ward 6 representative step up.
And now looking ahead I am announcing today my plans to run for a seat on the Salem School Committee. For me, this feels like a natural next step in my public service journey. I’m looking forward to taking on this new challenge, connecting with even more members of our school community, and learning and listening along the way.
When I first ran for office in 2019 – just six years ago, though it feels like a lifetime – so much has changed, both globally and right here in Salem. Through it all, I’ve had the unique perspective of being both a Salem Public Schools parent and an elected official. I’ve remained committed to our schools and proud to be a vocal supporter. I understand the challenges and complexities from different vantage points, but the one that matters most to me is as a parent.
Salem Public Schools are on a positive trajectory, and I want to help keep that momentum going. At the same time, I know there are uncertainties ahead. Essential conversations and decisions lie in front of us, and I believe it’s critical to approach them with compassion, transparency, and community engagement – just as I’ve strived to do throughout my time on the Council.
I’ve chosen to announce my School Committee candidacy early in the election season for a few key reasons: to give Ward 6 voters the time and space to engage in robust conversations about their next Council representative, and to give myself the opportunity to fully prepare – by listening and learning as much as I can about the School Committee, the role, and how I can best contribute to its important work.
I will still be here as your ward councillor for the remainder of 2025, and I hope to be of assistance to the next. And of course, I will be keeping you all up to date as the election season moves on, because if any ward knows that every vote counts – it is us here in ward 6!

Al reflexionar sobre mis tres mandatos en el Concejo Municipal, me siento orgulloso de todo lo que hemos logrado juntos: desde sortear una pandemia mundial hasta hacer nuestras calles más seguras, impulsar la vivienda inclusiva y desafiar el statu quo. Ha sido un trabajo significativo, colaborativo y, en ocasiones, arduo, pero siempre ha valido la pena.
Estoy profundamente agradecido por la oportunidad de servir.
Si bien estoy orgulloso de mi trabajo como concejal del Distrito 6, a finales de este año estaré listo para dar el siguiente paso y ver a un nuevo representante del Distrito 6 asumir el cargo.
Y ahora, mirando hacia el futuro, anuncio hoy mis planes de postularme para un puesto en el Comité Escolar de Salem. Para mí, esto se siente como el siguiente paso natural en mi trayectoria de servicio público. Tengo muchas ganas de asumir este nuevo reto, conectar con aún más miembros de nuestra comunidad escolar y aprender y escuchar a lo largo del camino.
Cuando me postulé por primera vez para un cargo en 2019 —hace apenas seis años, aunque parezca una eternidad—, mucho ha cambiado, tanto a nivel mundial como aquí en Salem. A lo largo de todo este tiempo, he tenido la perspectiva única de ser padre de un miembro de las Escuelas Públicas de Salem y funcionario electo. He mantenido mi compromiso con nuestras escuelas y me enorgullece ser un firme defensor de ellas. Entiendo los desafíos y las complejidades desde diferentes perspectivas, pero la que más me importa es la de padre.
Las Escuelas Públicas de Salem están en una trayectoria positiva y quiero ayudar a mantener ese impulso. Al mismo tiempo, sé que hay incertidumbres por delante. Tenemos por delante conversaciones y decisiones esenciales, y creo que es fundamental abordarlas con compasión, transparencia y compromiso comunitario, tal como me he esforzado por hacer durante mi tiempo en el Consejo.
He decidido anunciar mi candidatura al Comité Escolar al inicio de la temporada electoral por varias razones clave: para dar a los votantes del Distrito 6 el tiempo y el espacio necesarios para entablar conversaciones sólidas sobre su próximo representante en el Consejo, y para darme la oportunidad de prepararme por completo, escuchando y aprendiendo todo lo posible sobre el Comité Escolar, su función y cómo puedo contribuir mejor a su importante labor.
Seguiré aquí como concejal de su distrito durante lo que resta de 2025 y espero ser de ayuda para el próximo. Y, por supuesto, los mantendré informados a medida que avance la temporada electoral, porque si en algún distrito sabemos que cada voto cuenta, ¡somos nosotros, aquí en el Distrito 6!
